About Jan Van Pelt

Born in 1949 in Antwerp, Belgium.

Living in Brussels, Belgium.

Jan has been writing poems in Dutch, English and French for many years. They are characterised by simplicity, restraint and expressiveness. In his poems, he explores the inner stirrings of the soul.

Jan began painting in 2015. He describes his early paintings as therapeutic, and they explore themes such as rejection, abandonment, betrayal, grief and loneliness.

Jan has no formal artistic training. As a self-taught artist through and through, he has gradually evolved towards an increasingly authentic expression of emotions and sensitivities. Sometimes harsh and raw. Sometimes refined and subtle. But always confrontational or thought-provoking.

And who am I?
For god’s sake,
who am I,
born out of
nothingness,
moving towards finity?
